Influence of Biochar Derived Nitrogen on Cadmium Removal by Ryegrass in a Contaminated Soil

چکیده
Little is known about the effect of nitrogen (N) application via biochar on removal trace elements by crops, and effects with chemical fertilizers are inconsistent. We determined, from a previous study, influence increased N addition biochars produced switchgrass (SGB) poultry litter (PLB) cadmium (Cd) ryegrass. The rates 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4% w/w were applied to Cd-contaminated soil before seeding in potting experiment complete randomized block design (CRBD). Ryegrass yield Cd removed harvest strongly related (p < 0.05). ryegrass yields up 1% PLB, was also highest at PLB. biomass roots accumulation Overall, transfer factor (TF) shoots when 206 ± 38 kg ha−1 0.0001). PLB might be viable option since it practical rate for handling operations requiring less volume material than SGB. Additionally, concentration aboveground forage remained acceptable grazing cattle. Future studies encouraged evaluate different sources affecting uptake cash crops.

Cadmium removal from contaminated soil by tunable biopolymers.
An elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) composed of a polyhistidine tail (ELPH12) was exploited as a tunable, metal-binding biopolymer with high affinity toward cadmium. By taking advantage of the property of ELPH12 to undergo a reversible thermal precipitation, easy recovery of the sequestered cadmium from contaminated water was demonstrated as the result of a simple temperature change. In this stud...
متن کاملSimultaneous Removal of Cadmium and Turbidity in Contaminated Soil-washing Water by Electroflotation
The removal of cadmium and turbidity from contaminated soil-washing water was studied by Electroflotation (EF) at the laboratory scale by using sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as an anionic surfactant, and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) as a coagulant. The stoichiometric cadmium to collector (SLS) and coagulant (Ca(OH)2) ratio was 1:4.5. Significant removal of cadmium (100 %, not detected in the resid...
متن کاملCombination of biochar amendment and phytoremediation for hydrocarbon removal in petroleum-contaminated soil
Remediation of soils contaminated with petroleum is a challenging task. Four different bioremediation strategies, including natural attenuation, biochar amendment, phytoremediation with ryegrass, and a combination of biochar and ryegrass, were investigated with greenhouse pot experiments over a 90-day period. The results showed that planting ryegrass in soil can significantly improve the remova...
متن کاملBiochar impact on physiological and biochemical attributes of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) in nickel contaminated soil
Disastrous effect of nickel on spinach was discussed by number of authors but the effect of amendments like biochar with nickel on Spinacea oleraceaL. is not still discussed by any author of the world because biochar was used as soil amendments which play a vital role in reducing mobilization and uptake of nickel by spinach plants. As nickel contaminated plants are very harmful for th...
متن کاملEffects of full and limited irrigation and contaminated soil on cadmium uptake by corn
Using plants for the remediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals is an economical, cheap, and effective strategy. The goal of this research was to study the effect of sewage sludge and drought stress on the remediation of cadmium in soil, root uptake by corn plant. This study was carried out on corn in factorial design experiment based on completely randomized design with three replicat...
